The Spanish firm has finished construction of the Mount Signal Solar complex, a 206 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic plant located in Calexico, California. This will be the world’s largest single-axis plant.
Abengoa has been responsible for the engineering, construction and commissioning of this facility. Located in southeast California’s Imperial Valley, Mount Signal Solar will be the world’s largest single-axis photovoltaic plant.
This plant will generate enough solar power to satisfy the energy needs of 72,000 homes in and around San Diego, thereby preventing the annual emission of 356,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The facility has 206 MW of installed capacity.
Abengoa is currently at work on various projects in the US, which represents 28% of the company’s business. Among these are Solana, the world’s largest parabolic trough plant that has been in operation since last year, and Mojave, a 280 MW solar thermal plant that will enter into production in mid-year.
