Spanish companies and researchers are creating new solutions with this cutting edge technology.
Wearable technology is revolutionizing industry. These devices are capable of counting—in real time—calories consumed, the number of steps a user has walked, a person’s heart rate and numerous other measures.
Focusing on the healthcare sector, the company Nuubo has designed a medical device that captures the heart’s electrical signals by using sensors integrated into clothing fabric itself. Also in the textile sector, the firm Weartech has developed the ‘Gow Trainer’ personal trainer system. Using geolocation, this system lets users monitor their pulse rate as they exercise.
Researchers from the University of Malaga have designed a wristband with NFC (near field communication) technology called ‘Thirteenfiftysix or 13.56’. It works like a remote control for mobile phones. With only two movements of the wrist the wristband can block or unblock a mobile phone’s screen, add contacts, end a call, control music being played or raise/lower the phone’s volume. Another example of smart Spanish technology is Remotte; this company is making a remote control which can operate Google Glass augmented reality glasses.
Nestwork has invented a personal security bracelet that allows someone to be located at all times. In case of an emergency, the wearer can call for immediate assistance. The glasses from ‘Weon Glasses’ are synchronized with a mobile phone using Bluetooth. They have a small LCD that can be programmed with 256 different colors, in order to provide alerts to the user who is wearing them.
Finally Zerintia is developing services and applications for wearable technology, including watches and smart glasses. The company’s solutions are focused in healthcare, tourism, security and corporate applications.
