The Spanish company Envac Iberia has been awarded a contract to install a pneumatic solid waste transport system in Hudson Yards, the largest urban development project currently underway in New York.

Envac Iberia will design and coordinate the construction of the system, which will provide Hudson Yards with a vacuum waste disposal network. This project is the largest private real estate development in the United States, being built over the railroad yards leading to and from Pennsylvania Station on Manhattan’s West Side at an expected cost of $20 billion.
Hudson Yards spans 1.6 million square meters on the island of Manhattan. The development will include 5 office towers, a luxury hotel with 175 rooms, numerous restaurants, over 100 shops, a public school for 750 students, 5,000 apartments, 56,000 square meters of open public space and a large area for exhibitions.

The development will be built in two phases. The first, called Eastern Yard, will be completed in 2018 and covers the area between 10th and 11th Avenues and West 30th to 34th Streets. It will include four of the five office towers and the hotel.

The second phase, called Western Yard, extends to the Hudson River and includes the West Tower, the school and the majority of the residential development.
