This Spanish satellite telecommunications operator will build a teleport in Morocco with a cutting edge antenna in order to offer satellite coverage of up to 20 Mbps across the entire country.
The first step for the company was to acquire the leading satellite telecommunications operator in Morocco, Nortis, which has over 80% market share in the country. With this purchase, Quantis expects to obtain over 100,000 satellite clients in Morocco within five years.
The company intends to build a teleport with a state of the art antenna in order to offer telecommunications services of up to 20 Mbps via satellite across the entire country, thereby enabling it to provide service to every inhabitant and business in Morocco.
The Spanish operator aims to replicate the model it has employed in Spain, in order to fill the digital breech that exists in Morocco.
The Government of Morocco is extremely interested in this Spanish project because internet access is key to the country’s development. There are a large number of Moroccan immigrants in both Spain and France, and these groups want to be connected to their family members back home.
Quantis will offer telecommunications services to large companies and, at the same time, backhaul services to the country’s major mobile phone operators that are expanding 3G and 4G coverage.
Quantis has been working for one year in Casablanca toward launching this project. The company had revenues of €7 million in 2013 and also has a 100%-owned affiliate in the Ivory Coast.
