The Spanish experience in high speed will serve as the model for the design of Poland’s first such railway line, that will connect the cities of Warsaw, Lodz, Poznan and Wroclaw.
After an international bidding contest was held, in which the most noteworthy companies in the sector participated, the Spanish engineering company Idom Internacional has been awarded the contract to carry out the feasibility study for the first high speed train line in Poland. The contract is worth over €12 million and will be completed during a 27 month period.
The consortium led by Idom Internacional, which also includes the Polish engineering firm Biuro Projektów Komunikacyjnych w Poznaniu, will carry out the necessary analyses in order to select the best option for the line’s route. Afterward, it will produce the reports and detailed proposals for its development, preparing the documentation and the description of the necessary components for the project.
The main goal for the construction and opening of the first high speed train line in Poland is to significantly reduce the travel time between the majority of the country’s provincial capitals. This will benefit the approximately ten million people who will have direct access to the line.
Also among the project’s objectives are to increase the share of rail travel in Poland, improve rail safety and reduce carbon dioxide emissions in passenger transport.
Construction of the high speed line connecting Warsaw-Lodz-Poznan-Wroclaw is expected to begin in 2014. It will be 450 kilometers in length and be capable of reaching maximum speeds of 350km/h. Source: Via Libre
