It will manufacture the structures for the fuel storage pools, worth €5.2 million.
Equipos Nucleares (ENSA), part of the SEPI Group, has won a contract in South Korea to manufacture ‘racks’. That is, it will make the structures for the fuel storage pools at the Shin & Ulchin nuclear power plant. The contract was awarded after a bidding process conducted by the plant’s owner, power company Korea Hydro Nuclear Power (KHNP).
The project, worth €5.2 million, includes the design, licensing and supply of the used fuel racks, based on a model developed and patented by ENSA. One of the advantages of this model, called Interlock Cell Matrix, is that it reduces the amount of hours necessary for its manufacture by using mechanical joints instead of welded joints.
Other bidders for the contract included Doosan Heavy Industries (a large Korean manufacturer) and Holtec (worldwide leader for this type of products). With this win, ENSA reinforces its position both in the Asian market, and in the market for capital goods for the nuclear industry.
This project represents 23,000 hours of direct work for ENSA’s factory, located in Maliaño (Cantabria). Recently, the Spanish company signed a contract worth $113 million (€82.5 million) with the Chinese firm Senpec, in order to manufacture steam generators for the latter’s Sanmen plant.
