Indra leads the system for air traffic management.

All German airspace is now managed with Indra´s technology. The center which controls air traffic in this country is located in the city of Karlsruhe, and this uses technology developed by the Spanish company. Indra has successfully concluded the initial phase for the implementation of the new air traffic control system called Vaforit. This model offers greater flexibility to airlines when choosing the most adequate routes given an aircraft´s destination, thus reducing flight times, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Indra is the technology partner of Germany’s air navigation services provider, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS). In this manner, Indra becomes the first company in Europe to have implemented a system with these characteristics, putting itself several years ahead of other companies in the sector.

Most of the air traffic en-route over Germany is controlled from the city of Karlsruhe. The implementation of the Vaforit system will improve the management of flights between different countries and also comply with the goals set for the creation of the European Single Sky project. “It will help controllers resolve possible conflicts between aircrafts and make flight planning more accurate, which will translate into improved punctuality and fewer cancellations in airports”, explains the company. Indra’s systems are also used in the rest of German airspace.
