A group of engineers from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) has developed a high performance electric motorcycle prototype, with which it recently participated in the first world championship for electric motorcycles (organized by the International Motorcycling Federation). This project, called e-Moto, has been created and developed by LGN Tech Design, a spin-off that originated as a line of research at the Spanish university.
This vehicle was conceived to be an electric motorcycle, with battery recharging systems similar to those of an automobile. Among the prototype’s technical characteristics, it’s worth highlighting the bike’s lightness compared to other existing models (145 kilos), an alternating current motor capable of 95 horsepower, regenerative braking for battery recharging, and special front suspension.
According to its developers, this first prototype goes beyond current electric models, most of which are scooters. They further point out the environmental advantages of using this type of motorcycle compared to conventional models. The most important point is zero-emissions of gases into the atmosphere, as well as reduced noise and vibrations.
