The company has created an audiovisual transmission system that is incorporated into an athletic jersey. Intel calls it one of the ten most interesting wearables of the year.
It’s not a recording system like a GoPro camera, but instead is designed to transmit images. A sports jersey is equipped with a camera on the chest and an RF transmitter, while the rest of the electronics are on the back of the shirt. The Spanish company First V1sion has focused on keeping the garment as light as possible and making the device safe for the athlete who is wearing it.
Watching sports from the point of view of the athlete has been possible for some time, but only for certain disciplines such as Formula 1 and mountain biking where the infrastructure of the sport itself allows for the placement of mini-cameras. In other sports it is very difficult—if not against the rules—to use cameras on moving vehicles or place them in the field with hard protective coverings.
FirstV1sion found a solution to this problem. Based in Barcelona, the company has designed an audiovisual transmission system that is part of an athletic jersey itself. Even though the project has only produced a prototype, the multinational Intel describes it as “one of the ten most interesting wearables of the year in the world”.
This audiovisual system incorporates a heart rate monitor and an accelerometer in order to provide contextual data for the image being transmitted.
