A new system to optimize smart energy management

The Energy Technological Institute (ITE according to its Spanish abbreviation) has created a system that cuts energy management costs for end users, marketing companies and distributors. The company’s system takes advantage of data collected by smart meters.

This technology is called Smart Measurement and Active Energy Marketing (MICE using its Spanish abbreviation). Developed by the ITE,it has the ability to centralize energy production and consumption data. Also participating in the project are the companies Valenciana Smart Energy, Energest and engineering firm Mas Ingenieros.

This system uses data collected by new electricity meters that can manage variable electricity rates and be monitored remotely, which all homes must use by 2018. It helps to incentivize energy efficiency by providing users with more information about their consumption. This achieves two goals: reducing CO2 emissions and creating new lines of business based on technological services for both the energy and IT sectors.

The project gives its participants the ability to communicate about energy management, with mechanisms for companies to offer their customers special rate packages. Distributors can better monitor and manage their networks, facilitating electricity and energy integration for their clients.
