The Spanish company Desarrollos Mecánicos de Precisión (DMP) has signed a contract to produce the shock absorbers for the new Airbus A350 passenger plane.
The partners in the Basque Aerospace Cluster (HEGAN) continue to reinforce their position as suppliers for the A350XWB, the new double-aisle passenger plane from European manufacturer AIRBUS, as evidenced by the company DMP winning a €15 million contract to manufacture landing gear.
Philippe Roulet, sales manager at DMP, points out that “the systems must be capable of supporting 300 tons, for which they have very rigorous quality and safety requirements”. The main landing gear of the A350XWB is composed of two shock absorbers which support this Airbus model, capable of carrying up to 350 passengers.
The contract awards for the A350XWB plane represent a long-term growth engine for the Basque aerospace sector. They will generate 4,000 jobs, create new technological niches and lead to the large scale manufacture of carbon fiber aviation components.
After the engines and aerostructures that have converted ITP, on the one hand, and Aernnova, Alestis and Aciturri, on the other, into top tier suppliers, the company DMP from Guipúzcoa will produce the shock absorption system for the main landing gear of 475 A350 airplanes. Thus the company, based in Mendaro (Guipúzcoa) and part of the Egile Group, consolidates its presence in the international aeronautics market with a long term contract in the landing gear niche.
The Basque Aerospace Cluster, HEGAN, was the first aerospace cluster to be formally created in Spain in 1997. It is composed of four large industrial groups (Aciturri, Aernnova, Alestis and ITP), two large engineering firms (ALTRAN and SENER) and a broad network of specialized small and medium-sized companies.
