Mirage Technologies S.L., a company based in Valencia, presents a pioneering technology to watch television in 3D without the need for special glasses.
Mirage Technologies S.L. is a pioneering company from Valencia in 3D autostereoscopy, which allows complete three-dimensional perception in comparison with simple stereoscopic systems that require the use of special glasses.
Originally, stereoscopic systems worked with only two views, sending a different image to each eye. This approach creates the perception of depth when the position of the spectator is fixed with regard to the screen, as is the case in a movie theater. However, this system is lacking when the position of the spectator can change relative to the screen, such as in the case of television, where any possible change of positioning does not result in perception change, taking away from the resulting verisimilitude.
Multi-view autostereoscopic systems have emerged to solve this problem. They work with various visible images (5-12 is the norm) in different angles, allowing spectators to perceive the effect from different positions.
More than 15 years experience in the development of 3D visualization solutions through innovative technologies allows Mirage to offer unique systems and content. These combine images generated by computer with the production and transformation of real images using digital means. The result is that Mirage’ products reproduce the effect of volume and depth as seen in 3D movies or virtual reality systems, but without the use of glasses or other devices.
Mirage is currently working on transmission systems that can manage packages of multi-view images, as well as on tools for handing them: The configurable Mirage Suite 3D Player can present images, videos and 3D objects automatically or interactively; the Mirage Suite 3D Converter converts images generated by 3D content rendering programs such as 3DStudio Max, Maya and Cinema4D into compressed videos that are ready to be played on autostereoscopic screens.
