The Segurtrans Project, started by Sacyr, Euroestudios, Sener and Tecnalia, aims to increase the overall level of security at transportation terminals, against deliberate, critical events such as explosions, fires and cyber attacks.

The project will help to conceive new constructive and architectural solutions that enable the efficient design of security in transportation terminals (airports, train stations, metropolitan trains, etc.). In addition to the entities already mentioned, the consortium carrying out the project will include organizations such as KV Consultores, Tapusa and the Technical University of Madrid’s School of Mine Engineering.

Tecnalia’s Construction Unit has been working for almost two years on a new line of technology related with modeling the effects of explosions. This team contributes its know-how for the design of threatening scenarios and models the causes and effects of explosions on both people and major structural systems. Its differentiating contribution is its knowledge of, and capacity for, modeling the impact of fire and explosions, as well as the effect on constructive scenarios. Further, it distinguishes between primary structural systems, secondary systems and enclosures. The effects are integrated into advanced human behavioral models in order to determine minimal impacts and safe evacuation routes.
