This will make the United Kingdom the core of its ‘offshore’ development. Wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa has chosen to develop its technological solutions in the United Kingdom. To begin with, the company will build its marine wind center in Glasgow (Scotland). Further, it is completing a memorandum of understanding in another Scottish city, Dundee, in order to begin the manufacture, logistics and maintenance of offshore installations. In the latter case, Gamesa expects to work together with a number of partners: Scottish Enterprise, Dundee City Council and Forth Ports. Gamesa’s plans in the United Kingdom also include the construction of a blade production plant and the development of offshore logistics operations at a number of ports in the country. From these it will offer maintenance and operations services for wind turbines.
It has also set its sights on the United Kingdom as the headquarters for its global marine wind business, which will be based in London. There it expects to engage in sales, project development, finance and administration activities. Gamesa plans to meet the expected demand for marine wind energy in the northern European market and, more specifically, in the United Kingdom. Currently, the company is designing and developing two families of offshore turbines, based on technology proven and validated in the platform G10X-4.5MW.

In the United States, Gamesa is working to develop the first marine prototype Gamesa G11X-5.0MW, together with Newport News Shipbuilding. The latter is a division of Northrop Grumman Corporation, a defense contractor and shipbuilder. The project is based on Gamesa’s multi-megawatt technology, and on the experience of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in marine environments.
