The Spanish group Crambo (Vexia) has developed a smart system to avoid fines from radars installed in long motorway tunnels. If a driver comes out of a tunnel before a stipulated time, it means that he has traveled at an excessive speed while inside; this is recorded by the radar installed at the exit of the tunnel and results in a fine being imposed.
Precisely in order to avoid this type of infraction, Vexia has invented a technological solution called Radar Tunnel. Through the use of a timer, the smart system monitors the time spent inside the tunnel. The company has also solved the problem of the loss of conventional GPS coverage inside tunnels.
The Radar Tunnel’s screen changes color as a function of circumstances. Thus when red it warns the driver that, if the car exists the tunnel, it will receive a fine; orange indicates that the automobile can practically leave the tunnel, though not with complete certainty. Only when it is green can the car exit without risk of fines. According to the developers, “The idea is to have velocity under control on these stretches, which always translates into peace of mind as we can concentrate on traffic conditions and not have to worry about our own speed”.
