Ficosa leads the MARTA project, aimed at improving mobility in Europe.

Transportation problems are increasingly visible in Europe. Traffic jams and accidents are on the rise, while the higher traffic levels lead to more pollution. As a result the MARTA project (Mobility and Automotive Transport with Advanced Transportation Networks) has come into being, led by the Spanish group Ficosa. The goal of this initiative is to promote research and development into communication between vehicles and with the roadway network, in order to reduce accidents and improve mobility in the Europe of the 21st century.

After four years of study, MARTA intends to establish the scientific bases aimed at solving traffic and safety problems, through advanced technological systems. These smart systems make traffic management easier, more efficient and sustainable, while reducing contamination.

In general terms, MARTA foresees dealing with issues such as protocols and networks, equipment for vehicles (sensors, actuators and communication modules), and equipment for the roadway infrastructure.

In addition to Ficosa 18 companies from different sectors are participating, as well as 19 research centers and Spanish universities. MARTA is one of 16 projects supported by the Spanish Government, aimed at promoting public-private cooperation in R&D.
