The company Geoaudio reproduces stories and sounds on a mobile phone about the place one is passing through, while eDiam from Valencia creates applications for real estate firms.

In two years there will be 21 million smartphones in Spain, representing 50% of all mobile telephones. This means that it will be possible to develop numerous applications for them. For example, with the phone in hand and without looking at the screen, it will be possible to listen to stories and real sounds of a place we are visiting while we walk along the street. This will be automatic and not require touching a button. It’s the augmented reality that the Spanish firm Geoaudio is developing, through a program for mobile phones. This technology could be used for intelligent guided tours for tourists.

The firm from Valencia eDiam Sistemas is the only one is Spain certified to use Junaio, another augmented reality web browser. With it they have created applications for real estate companies in order to search for apartments on the go, while on the street. It has also designed games such as Tic-Tac-Toe, a three in a row game where a game board on the mobile phone is superimposed over the real image of a table.

Video games have been until now the strong suit of augmented reality and there are companies such as Unkasoft from Madrid that use this technology for advertising. It creates games for mobile phones where its clients’ brands, whether it be a car or a soft drink, are mixed into the game. For example, killing Martians by throwing cans of a specific brand of beer.

Telefónica has also developed its own augmented reality technology: a visitor goes to a museum, points his mobile phone at a painting and the phone offers all kinds of information about the artwork.
