Satellite ABS-2, manufactured by Space Systems/LORAL, will embark the new Ku-band low-noise amplifiers developed by MIER COMUNICACIONES. Space Systems LORAL, a company based in Palo Alto (Silicon Valley, California) and a worldwide leader in the manufacture of commercial communication satellites has awarded Mier Comunicaciones the supply of the Kuband low-noise amplifiers that will be embarked on the new satellite ABS-2 of the Asian operator Asia Broadcast Satellite.

ABS-2, with 87 C-, Ku- and Ka-band transponders distributed over 10 beams and designed to offer direct-to-home and cable TV, VSAT, data and telecommunications services, will be the largest commercial satellite ever launched in the Eastern hemisphere.

Mier Comunicaciones, a private company headquartered in La Garriga (Barcelona), has been in business for more than 50 years and is an international reference in high-frequency electronics for space and terrestrial applications.

Throughout its history, it has supplied more than 1,000 radio frequency equipments to be carried on board communication, earth observation, science and navigation satellites, to the world’s leading space agencies and satellite and space system manufacturers.

Mier Comunicaciones closed the year 2010 with new contracts for 18 satellites; ABS-2 is the first one with an Asian operator and the seventh with the U.S. company SS/LORAL.
