The Spanish company, which specializes in urban Wi-Fi telecommunications services, has now entered Africa. The firm will provide its connectivity services in Pointe-Noire, the second largest city in the Republic of the Congo.

Gowex has reached an agreement with OFIS, one of the leading internet service providers in the Republic of the Congo. Operating under the brand name Yattoo.com, OFIS provides IT and telecommunications services to public administrations, corporations and individuals in the Congo-Brazzaville area.

The network to be deployed by Gowex will have more than one hundred free Wi-Fi hotspots, located in areas frequented by tourists in Pointe-Noire where Yattoo.com operates, such as hotels, bars and restaurants. Free wireless access is highly sought after by users in such areas.

Pointe-Noire is the country’s main commercial center of activity and has over one million inhabitants.

Gowex believes that countries in central Africa, such as the Congo, and other emerging nations represent a key driver for the company’s expansion, given that they have enormous growth potential.

In this sense the deal with Yattoo.com will help to progressively bring universal free Wi-Fi access in the region and promote the country’s technological and social development.

The demand for mobile telephony and internet access continues to grow in Africa. Close to 50% of those living in urban areas are already connected to the internet.
