FoodExperts, a Spanish technology company operating in the agri-food sector, has received the International Prize for Excellence in Innovation 2014. This distinction was given by International Procurement & Logistics, the biggest single importer of produce into the United Kingdom, which is owned by industry giant Walmart.
Spain’s FoodExperts received this prize from a field of over 1,500 suppliers from around the world, thanks to the services offered by the company. FoodExperts specializes in quality control and risk assessment along the supply chain for fruits and vegetables. The company also provides online services for retail markets, aimed at distribution chains, importers, exporters and producers in the agri-food sector who need to monitor the products that they are selling.
The company’s goal is to offer a platform that facilitates communication along the food supply chain, bringing suppliers and customers closer together and making information sharing simpler. Its system gives users online access to analytical data about their products, making it easier to track items that are sold and helping them to avoid problems in the marketing process. Today the company offers its services in Spain, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Greece, Egypt and India.
Specifically, the platform helps users to manage data and analysis about Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs, which concern pesticide content) for major markets around the world. It also provides data about Acute Reference Doses (ARfD) as determined by the World Health Organization (WHO), and compiles reports from mobile devices about sustainability indicators and environmental impact.
