“From Rags to Riches – A story of Abu Dhabi”, by Mohammed Al-Fahim

Upon my start at Black Capital, the Middle East Director, Kamran Saddique, recommended me a book, which fostered my understanding of the Middle East, in particular the United Arab Emirates. “From Rags to Riches”, by Mohammed Al-Fahim, vividly illustrates the transformation that the UAE and Abu Dhabi underwent in order to become a country, which is nowadays known to be one of the most forward-thinking, innovative and eager countries in the world. As the author, the 1st Vice-President of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, himself experienced a very successfully career, he was able to tell a very authentic story, which has enabled me to gain a better understanding of the people, their culture and the business world of the UAE. It has been a fascinating read that is recommendable for anyone who values an exciting story coupled with great insight into what led to the great transformation of a country, which income and economy was not too long ago fully concentrated on fishing and pearling.
