High technology traffic lights to control safety in mines

The traffic lights, designed in their entirety by Dener Ingeniería, can detectvehicles through the incorporation of hyperfrequency radar with Doppler technology.

The traffic lights, installed in the surface mine at Santa Lucía de Gordón, La Robla (León), are used on a stretch of road inside the mining complex, where it was necessary to control traffic due to orographic limitations and the size of the vehicles that are used.

This made it impossible for vehicles to pass each other going in opposite directions at the same time. Thanks to the special needs of the mine, it was decided to place them on mobile platforms in order to be able to move them and avoid possible damage while blasting was taking place. To complement their mobility, Dener’s traffic lights consume 50% less energy than conventional versions, by using LED lighting, photovoltaic panels and low energy-use wireless communication.

Dener Ingeniería S.L., headquartered in the municipality of Torrelavega (Cantabria), is a company that has been working since 2005 in the fields of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, principally in solar thermal energy and photovoltaics.
