The Secretary of State for Public Administration, Consuelo Rumí, received the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award in Barcelona, in recognition of the quality of service that the Administration provides for citizens over the Internet.

The Secretary of State for Public Administration highlighted during her speech the effort made by both the Government and public servants, in order to achieve a civil service that is more accessible, more efficient and more modern.

Consuelo Rumí also pointed out that today e-government is a reality in Spain. And she assured that as of today, in matters relating to the Central Government Administration, any administrative procedure or filing that citizens require can be started electronically. She added that practically 100% of all procedures—specifically 98%–can be accomplished electronically.

Finally, the Secretary of State illustrated the 5 core themes that the Government is working on in order to advance further in the modernization of the Administration and the use of new technologies. These five themes are: the Government creating a citizen’s Electronic Access Law for public services, expanding the use of electronic IDs, prioritizing the creation of infrastructure and common services in this sector, the development of different information campaigns for citizens as well as training for public servants, and advancing the collaboration, coordination and cooperation among the different levels of the Government.
