The Ministry of Science and Innovation, and the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology, have agreed to undertake projects together for technological cooperation between Spain and Brazil.

This agreement involves areas such as communications, security, transportation infrastructure, sustainable construction, energy efficiency and tourism.

These fields of activity represent an opportunity for companies from both countries, given they will play a fundamental role in the organization of the two large sporting events that Brazil will soon be hosting: the 2014 Football World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.

This is a product of the trip that Minister Cristina Garmendia took last week to Brazil, during which she met with the key leaders of that country in the fields of politics, development and the promotion of science and innovation, in order to reinforce scientific and technological bilateral cooperation.

Further, this initiative derives from the collaborative framework that exists between the entities driving innovation and technological development in each country: the Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), a part of Spain’s Ministry of Science and Innovation, and the Brazilian Innovation Agency (FINEP), under that country’s Ministry of Science and Technology. In fact, already in 2006 the two agencies agreed to an exchange program for representatives from both institutions, and to develop industrial and technological cooperation between Spanish and Brazilian entities.

Both agencies will now determine the most efficient ways to transfer technology and together develop new products and services that can be offered by companies in both countries, within the aforementioned fields.
