Thanks to this project, government agencies from other European countries will accept the DNIe (Spanish electronic national identity card) and other electronic certificates.
STORK is being developed as an initiative of the European Commission’s program “i2010 – A European Society for growth and employment”, and includes the participation of 14 countries. Indra is collaborating with the Spanish Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Administration (MPTyAP) in Europe’s STORK project. The objective of STORK is to facilite the interoperability of electronic identity documents, guaranteeing access that is secure and integrated into the services of eGovernment according to common interoperability specifications.
The STORK project is being carried out under the initiative “i2010 – A European Society for growth and employment”, which promotes an open and competitive digital economy with a focus on ITC as an engine of inclusion and quality of life.
To achieve this, 32 entities from 14 countries (13 from the European Union: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, France, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Sweden; as well as Iceland) have joined forces in the STORK consortium (Secure IdenTity AcrOss BoRders LinKed), with reference to this migrating bird par excellence.
Thanks to this initiative, the DNIe and other common electronic identity documents in Spain, such as electronic certificates, will be accepted by electronic administrations in France, Austria, Germany, Portugal and other countries participating in STORK. The Spanish Government, for its part, will also be capable of accepting electronic identity documents from other countries. Further, in contrast to other systems of identity management, the data provided by the STORK platform is guaranteed by the governments of the issuing countries, assuring transparency, security and reliability of the information.
All the information is gathered in a platform that will be able to manage the identities of 400 million European citizens, currently allowing them access to about 40 portals. Indra is leading, together with MPTyAP, the design, development and implementation of this platform.
Currently work is being done to include credentials from Finland, Greece, Lithuania and Slovakia, while the number of portals accepting foreign credentials is also being expanded.
