Four Spanish companies have developed mini-housing composed of automated home furnishings. That is to say, they have recreated a space with smart kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms.

Spanish homes are advancing in a digital world. The new housing that four companies from Valencia are proposing, coordinated by the Institute for Furniture, Wood, Packing and Associated Sectors, is able to identify each of its inhabitants and adapt the layout of the home’s components as a function of their habits. It is also capable of proposing menus to its users as a function of the food available in the refrigerator, advise them of its expiry date, and regulate water consumption and temperature depending on usage.

The four companies from Valencia’s furniture sector are: Kendo, Koo Internacional, Modelcuin and Royo Group. All of them benefit from the technological advice of Inmomática, a firm specializing in home automation.

This new domestic setting has the advantage of being managed by the home’s own furnishings, all of which are totally compatible with each other. There is no need for any remodeling work. In this way one can access the different functions of the home from the couch via an integrated panel. Further, it’s possible to modify the lighting, temperature, music, movies, open a door or connect to the internet, among many other daily functions, without the need to move.

This new generation of connected furniture represents a radical change in the manufacture of furnishing as well as a challenge for the industry. Thus, furniture moves beyond its usual function as a passive element, and becomes transformed into an autonomous source of information and interaction with its environment. It can communicate, transmitting and receiving instructions from the house itself or the outside. It can also provide security through technical alarms and alerts when any incident or anomaly takes place within the home.
