With this first project in the United States, the Spanish firm aims to make the current station more environmentally sustainable.
Onyx Solar will be one of the key players in the remodeling of the Union City high speed station in San Francisco (USA). It will collaborate in the first phase of the project, supplying the semitransparent photovoltaic glass that will be used in the canopies of the new building.
The station is part of the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) system, that operates five lines covering 167 kilometers and has 43 stations across four counties. This railway system transports more than 320,000 passengers daily, making it the fifth busiest in the entire United States.
The Union City project will be the first for the Spanish company in the United States, a country where there are growth opportunities “thanks to the existence of greater sensitivity toward sustainable building”, according to the company.
For this reason, at the end of July last year Onyx Solar opened its first office in New York and is already working in the design phase of emblematic projects with some of the top architectural studios in the country, such as Gensler, KPF and SOM. These firms have designed many of the world’s tallest buildings, such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Chicago’s Sears Tower.
