The center in Singapore begins its work with three pioneering R&D projects, and joins the other four technology centers that will be opened this year; in total a network of ten research offices around the world is planned.

Gamesa, a world leader in the wind energy market, has opened a new technology center in Singapore which will focus primarily on advanced materials research.

The new center begins operations with three important research projects, in which it will study how to monitor composite materials by means of embedded sensors and determine their industrial applications. Together with the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, part of A*STAR, it will carry out research into the performance of turbine blades’ carbon fiber polymers after nano-reinforcements are applied to give them extra strength. With the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), Gamesa will also explore research and development in manufacturing.

Opening the new technology center in Singapore is part of Gamesa’s strategy to consolidate its strong presence in the market for renewable energies. Recently, together with Northrop Grumman Corporation, the company has developed a cutting-edge technology center for offshore wind turbines located in Chesapeake, Virginia, in the United States.

The Spanish firm will open four more technology centers (in the United States, India, the United Kingdom and Brazil, in addition to Singapore) this year, rounding out a global network of ten R&D centers.
