The company Indra has been awarded a contract to organize the forthcoming legislative elections in Iraq, to be held in April, 2014.

The project, worth about €130 million according to the contract terms, includes supplying electronic devices in order to guaranty positive identification of Iraqi voters who participate in the legislative elections. Indra will provide 22 million voter cards, each with a chip containing biographic and biometric data similar to an advanced electronic ID card. At the same time the company will also install its card reader equipment and a fingerprint registration system.

The Spanish group was chosen by Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission, which is in charge of organizing the proceedings, after an international bidding process that included the leading firms in the technology sector.
