The facility, which has 50 wind turbines, will provide green energy to about 30,000 households and prevent the emission of 75,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
The Spanish company Elecnor has brought on stream its first wind farm in Canada, with 100 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity. This €260 million investment reinforces the company’s presence in Canada and the entire North American market, where it recently purchased US infrastructure services firm Hawkeye LLC.
The Canadian wind farm was built in Quebec and has 50 wind turbines that will produce green energy to satisfy the electricity needs of around 30,000 households, and prevent the emission of 75,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. The contract to build the farm was awarded to Elecnor by Hydro-Quebec, a public energy generation and transmission utility.
Elecnor has reached a power purchase agreement with Hydro-Quebec to supply the Canadian firm with electricity for 20 years. Financing for the project was completed in May of last year through a syndicated loan that was fully subscribed by Canadian banks.
