Indra is demonstrating that technology can improve urban mobility in a number of projects around the world, including those in Manila (Philippines), Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo and Curitiba (Brazil), Medellin (Colombia), Mexico City and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

Technology can improve urban mobility and promote both the use of public transportation and interconnections between transport networks, at the same time that it reduces traffic congestion and the cost that goes along with it. Spanish company Indra is proving this at various locations around the world.

A recent example is the new urban traffic control center used by Metro Manila, which was designed and installed by Indra. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now using the Hermes smart traffic management system, thanks to a contract awarded to Indra in 2013. This innovative command and control center, called Metrobase v2.0, can control more than 500 intersections. It includes traffic controllers and a cutting edge surveillance system. Thanks to this new system Metro Manila can manage the movement of people and vehicles, have access to real time data about traffic conditions and reduce traffic congestion, which in turn cuts greenhouse gas emissions and spending on fuel.

Recently Indra has been awarded two new ticketing contracts from the Sao Paulo Metro in Brazil and Chile’s Santiago Metro. In Santiago Indra will bring its expertise to Transantiago, the integrated public transportation system serving Chile’s capital, providing support to applications for the Metro’s system of electronic access. In Sao Paulo, Indra will put in place systems for access control and magnetic ticket validation.
