The National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA), part of Spain’s Ministry of Defense, has delivered two ‘Diana’ class unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Brazil in order to transfer the technology for local manufacture.
INTA and the Brazilian company Equipaer Industria Aeronautica have reached an agreement in order to grant Brazil the exclusive license to manufacture and sell the Diana UAV in South America for national defense purposes.
Under the accord, the Brazilian Air Force will receive two Diana units, a ground control system and other ground equipment including a commercial launcher and an adaptive launch cart. In addition, INTA will provide the Brazilian company with the necessary technical support to manufacture, maintain and operate the systems. The agreement is part of a framework for collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space, which has an offset agreement with the Brazilian Air Force. The latter has 12 C-295 aircraft and 8 modernized P-3 Orion aircraft.
Brazil is one of Airbus Defence and Space’s largest customers in Latin America.
