Copasa will build Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Way, the nerve center of the 2016 Olympic Games. It connects numerous competition areas and the hub for public transportation.

Spanish firm Copasa will take on construction of the Olympic Village’s most important pedestrian artery for spectators at the Rio de Janeiro Games. The company is joined in this project by Brazilian group Construcap, which is also its partner in the construction of Sao Paulo’s northern ring road, the largest roadway infrastructure project currently underway in Brazil.

The Olympic Way will be a key focal point during this great international event, representing an integration and connection point for the Olympic Park, the Olympic Village, the Athletes’ Park, Riocentro and the Olympic Terminal. The Riocentro convention center is a headquarters for large national and international events, with almost 600,000 square meters of surface area and five pavilions for exhibitions.

Construction will include the Olympic Terminal, a transport hub for seven BRT lines (Bus Rapid Transit) and two bus stations (Río 2/TransCarioca and Riocentro/TransOlímpica), which will connect all the public transportation lines in the region.

The contract is worth €160.7 million. Work is expected to be completed in the second half of 2015.
