Spanish portal Identified won over Workday from the US thanks to its ability to process personal data. This is the most recent Spanish technology success story on the other side of the Atlantic.

The innovation from Identified (a Spanish job search portal) is its ability to process personal data (big data). It’s the most recent example of made in Spain entrepreneurship that’s attracted the interest of a listed US company. For Workday, a software firm specializing in human resources, the main attraction of Identified is precisely its big data capabilities.

The online era, which has brought with it an explosion in data availability as well as difficulties for storing, processing and extracting intelligence from it, is making companies with experience in these fields attractive prizes for large technology providers.

Identified, BuyVip, Let’s Bonus and Neo Metrics are proof of the growing attraction of Spanish technology for American multinationals.

In 2012, technology consultant Accenture bought Neo Metrics, a leading international analytical intelligence firm. In 2007, Neo Metrics had won the KDD Cup in San Francisco, which is the top global competition for companies and institutions specializing in data mining.

In 2010 Amazon purchased BuyVip, an online fashion outlet. LivingSocial, a discount coupon portal similar to Groupon, also purchased Spain’s Let’s Bonus. The first company to catch the eye of a large dotcom was Panoramio. In 2007 Google paid €6 million for this startup, created by two Spaniards, which lets users share the world through pictures.
