The Spanish company will supply photovoltaic glass in order to make skylights for the roof of the new terminal at Sao Paulo, Brazil’s Viracopos-Campinas International Airport. This is South America’s largest airport.

Onyx Solar, a company specialized in photovoltaic solutions for construction, will provide 4,100 units of semi-transparent, insulating photovoltaic glass to make 33 photovoltaic skylights in the roof of Sao Paulo’s new airport terminal. The skylights will cover 3,240 square meters and have installed capacity of 117 kilowatt peak (kWp).

The new terminal will help allow the airport to serve up to 15 million passengers, making it the largest and most modern in South America. Its strategic location will make it a key hub for the arrival of thousands of football fans during the FIFA World Cup, which will be held this year in Brazil.

Onyx Solar is also behind the world’s first walkable photovoltaic flooring, which was included in the annual listing of Hot Green Products 2014 by US publication Green Builder Magazine.

The first installation of this innovative photovoltaic product, which generates free, clean energy from the sun, took place at the George Washington University Science and Technology Campus in Virginia, USA. Onyx has more than 15 distributors for its products, in countries such as Australia, Mexico, Singapore, the Dominican Republic, the United States, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Egypt.
