The world’s largest passenger airplane saves fuel with Spanish technology

The star of the Chilean air & space show FIDAE 2014 was the Airbus 380, with its 80 meter wingspan and ability to transport over 800 passengers. Spain’s ITP is a key supplier in the manufacture of its Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines.

The company ITP is the exclusive supplier of low pressure turbines for the ‘Rolls Royce Trent 900’ engines used on the Airbus 380. This large wingspan aircraft can carry over 800 passengers. ITP’s low pressure turbines are an important component given that they help to reduce fuel consumption.

A great obstacle for commercial aircraft, and particularly for large planes, is their fuel consumption, given that they travel the longest distances and consume the most jet fuel. Cutting fuel consumption by 15% represents significant savings.

These advanced low pressure turbines from ITP are not only used in the world’s largest passenger plane; in fact all the double-aisled planes—the largest in the air—equipped with Rolls Royce engines around the world benefit from these turbines designed in Spain.
