MyCACTUS optimizes energy usage in the home in two ways: it acts like a thermostat in order to regulate room temperatures, and it manages the use of household appliances. It can help consumers save between 25% and 40% on their electricity bills.
Being able to turn on the oven while you’re still at work is an example of a smart home, but the idea of combining smart home functionality with the goal of saving energy hasn’t been put into practice until today. Now a company that is 100% Spanish is making this possible.
The product is calle MyCACTUS. It’s a new device with a seven-inch tactile screen on the top. MyCACTUS cuts energy consumption by regulating a home’s ambient temperature or, in other words, controlling the use of the heating and air conditioning systems. What’s more, it manages the electricity consumed by household appliances.
In order to control room temperature, MyCACTUS studies a user’s habits, connects with his or her smartphone and knows a person’s whereabouts at all times. In this way when you leave your house the system will determine that the home temperature can be at low energy usage levels. If the system receives an alert that the user is on his or her way back home, it will gradually begin to change the household temperature back to appropriate levels. It also receives data about the weather where the home is located. Not only can it provide information about the weather forecast, but it also uses this data in order to better regulate room temperature and distinguish between the temperature in degrees and the thermal sensation for inhabitants.
Through the use its electricity sensor, MyCACTUS also calculates at all times how much energy the washing machine, refrigerator and television are using. This device is the first of its kind that incorporates the new Spanish electricity rate schedule with peak and off-peak rates into its calculations. This lets MyCACTUS study a user’s habits in order to give them advice about when it would be cheaper to use appliances. All of these services combined together can help save consumers between 25% and 40% on their electric bills.
