This Spanish application from the company Bismart has been chosen by Microsoft as the most useful app for governments seeking to find ways to make their cities more sustainable.
The Spanish company Bismart has reasons to celebrate, after the company’s mobile app—bigov Better City Indicators—was chosen by Microsoft as the world’s most useful application for governments. This app transforms the raw data generated in cities into valuable information that helps public entities make informed decisions and create more livable and sustainable communities.
The app offers a real time vision of 80 key performance indicators for cities. These range from local economic activity to the level of delinquency to information about education. The data is presented in green, yellow or red, in order to let users easily identify the areas that require greater attention. The app provides clients with these key statistics 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on their mobile phones.
The company, which expects to reach sales this year of over €2 million, was invited to participate in the World to New York City Global Industry Challenge. This event is organized every year by the City of New York in order to bring together the world’s fifteen most innovative companies.
Bismart was founded in 2009. Only a few months later it won the Barcelona Capital Entrepreneurship prize for its business plan. Today the firm has a staff of 50 and its goal is to enter the Latin American market after its recent entry into Argentina. Later it hopes to move on to the United States and Saudi Arabia.
