A Spanish spinoff is using geospatial technology in order to carry out geolocation analysis of social networks. This lets users visualize precisely where people are communicating about a subject or helps companies track the impact of an ad campaign.

There are many tools to analyze social networks, but not with location technology. Now a spinoff from Spanish university Universidad Jaume I called Geotec is using geospatial technology to perform geolocation analysis of social networks, which lets users see where people are talking. As a result it’s possible to find out, for example, where people are talking about a fire and then locate it precisely, or let ad agencies follow their campaigns in a specific area and in real time.

Geospatial technologies provide companies and governments with valuable data. It’s a field that has experienced exponential growth in recent years.

Geotec (Geospatial Technologies Research Group) is also behind another technology spinoff called Ubik. Among the services it provides is Web 2.0 Broker Service, which can find and recover data from social networks and place it on a map so users can study the information and take advantage of it. In addition to tracking and analyzing ad campaigns, this service lets users find out when and how people are talking about a forest fire, for example.

Geo-information is a highly valuable tool for companies that are interested in finding out the geographic distribution of their sales and the success of their communication efforts. Geo-gaming is another service offered by Ubik, which consists of developing applications based on games in order to engage users and encourage their participation.
