20% of the 6 billion pairs of jeans that are made in the world every year are finished with Spanish technology. The company responsible for this feat is Jeanologia.

Jeanologia is having major success in the textile industry. Its technology to make vintage or distressed jeans helps companies reduce labor costs as well as use less water, chemicals and energy in the process. This technology is helping to create an industrial revolution in the sector.

The company believed that new, sustainable technologies were needed in order to clean up the production process for jeans, which is responsible for 20% of the contamination of the Earth’s rivers.

Thanks to the input of engineers and designers as well as a lot of hard work, the company began to develop a laser technology which makes vintage jeans. This process replaces the previous method relying on bleaches and sandblasting, which is now prohibited in Europe but still used in some countries.

Eight years ago the company came up with another technology called G2. This technique uses ozone gas—nature’s most powerful oxidizer—which gives garments a stonewashed look. Recently it has developed another technique called Eflow which uses microbubbles to soften garments.

Jeanologia sells to customers in 42 countries and has offices in Mexico, India, Bangladesh, Istanbul and Brazil. Brands such as Levi’s, Polo Jeans, Abercrombie & Fitch, Pepe Jeans, Diesel, Hilfiger Denim, Replay and large retailers including GAP, Uniqlo, Zara and H&M all rely on the techniques and technologies of this Spanish company.
