Governments from around the world are increasingly promoting offshore wind energy projects in order to reduce atmospheric emissions. Spanish companies play a key role toward achieving this objective.
Offshore wind energy will be a key factor in order to stimulate growth during the next decade. One example is Europe’s ‘Leanwind’ project, which aims to tackle the logistical and transportation inefficiencies that arise during the construction of offshore wind farms, thereby helping to reduce their installation costs.
The Spanish offshore wind sector plays an important role in this program thanks to the participation of the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Island (Plataforma Oceánica de Canarias or Plocan), Kaleido, Ideas & Logistics, Acciona Infraestructuras and Iberdrola Renovables Energía. All of these entities will play a decisive role in the areas of integrated logistics, construction, deployment, dismantling, operations and maintenance.
The Leanwind R&D project is also helping to consolidate the position of Iberdrola as the leader in carrying out renewable energy research projects. The company is already well recognized in countries such as Spain, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico and the United States.
Acciona Infraestructuras (Infrastructures) is a leading construction company which uses cutting edge technologies to develop and apply the most advanced materials, components, systems and sustainable solutions. Acciona is a European leader in energy efficient building.
Kaleido, Ideas & Logistics was founded in 1976. Today the firm is a standout in automation, industrial projects, energy (particularly wind energy), natural resource management, naval services, distribution and solutions for the food sector. It has offices in Spain, Portugal, Angola, Brazil, China, India and South Africa.
Plocan, the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands, is a multi-purpose service center offering large-scale infrastructure support for research, technology, and innovation related to the sea and maritime activities.
